The Marshalltown Arts & Civic Center (formerly the Fisher Community Center) was spared from damage during the 2018 EF3 tornado that swept through the northern half of Marshalltown causing heavy damage to the community. In 2020, a historic derecho with winds over 95 mph was less forgiving and caused widespread damage to Marshalltown including the Marshalltown Arts & Civic Center. Luckily, the Fisher Art Collection had gone to The Conservation Center in Chicago Chicago one month prior to the derecho. Extensive structural damage to the building meant that building renovations would need to start immediately.
